Anime Central, April 19-21, 2002

The following photos are from Anime Central, an annual Chicago-area anime convention. The convention featured several great guests, and it gave me a chance to meet up with some friends I hadn't seen in a while (or ever, in the case of some online friends!). Although there were a lot of people in costume, I didn't take a lot of pictures of the cosplayers. If you would like to see more cosplay pictures, please take a look at A Fan's View, which is an excellent website devoted to documenting the guests and costumers at anime conventions. They have a page devoted to Anime Central 2002.

Ravi

Ravi looks ready to hit the con.

Rosemont

We decided that it couldn't be *that* far to a restaurant, so we headed out to find something within walking distance. We actually left the town before we found anyplace to eat.

Jeff and Shane

Jeff, aka Richmond, and Shane, aka Sutarion arrive at their first anime con.

The Parking Space

We had a wonderful parking space the first day of the con. This is the view from the door to the hotel; my car is the one being pointed to.

Ken Akamatsu

Ken Akamatsu talks about Love Hina during his panel.

Bubba

One of the scariest sights in the world, anime fandom's very own Sailor Bubba.

Steve

Steve has transformed into Inu Yasha, complete with squeaky ears.

Brian

Brian as Captain N, a character that most people have apparently forgotten.

Rob

Rob, aka Chimerasame.

Matt, Kent, and Matt

Matt, Kent, and Matt from a local anime club.

Ken Akamatsu

Ken Akamatsu, creator of Love Hina, signed my Love Hina DVD box set.

Tetsuya Aoki

Tetsuya Aoki is working on a new manga for his company, PLEX, but I'm more familiar with one of his older works, when he was a designer for the Transformers.

Toshihiro Kawamoto

Toshiro Kawamoto, the character designer for Cowboy Bebop signed my Bebop DVD.

Hidenori Matsubara

Hidenori Matsubara, who was the character designer for the anime version of Oh! My Goddess, signed my OMG DVD.

Cosplayers

Final Fantasy X was popular at the con.

Cosplayers

Shishio-sama! Shishio-sama! Shishio-sama!
